Our Impact

Since opening in 2018, the Charleston Fisher House has become the busiest Fisher House in the entire VA system. Every night, families who would otherwise face hotel costs of $150 or more stay free of charge — so they can focus on what matters most: being with their loved one.

“The Fisher House was a blessing during one of the hardest times in our lives. We didn't have to worry about where to stay or how to afford it — we could just be there for our family.”

— Rebecca Truett, Fisher House Family

Making a Difference Every Day

The Charleston Fisher House provides a home away from home for military and veteran families while their loved one receives treatment at the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center. Every day, families arrive carrying the weight of a medical crisis — and they find a warm, welcoming place where they can rest, cook meals, do laundry, and connect with others going through similar journeys.

Friends of Fisher House Charleston enhances the guest experience through home improvements, family activities, holiday celebrations, and daily support. Our volunteers and donors make it possible to go above and beyond the standard Fisher House program — providing comfort and care that families never forget.

Meal Train

One of the most meaningful ways our community supports Fisher House families is through our Meal Train program. Volunteers sign up to prepare and deliver home-cooked meals to the house, ensuring that families always have a warm dinner waiting for them after a long day at the hospital.

Whether it's a casserole, soup, or a full Southern spread, these meals provide nourishment and comfort when families need it most. It's a simple act that makes an extraordinary difference.
