On March 10, Cuisine Rescue arrived at the Charleston Fisher House with 100 pulled pork and brisket sandwiches — enough to feed veteran families staying with us for several days.

Cuisine Rescue is a Charleston-based nonprofit that recovers prepared food from caterers and restaurants that would otherwise go to waste and redirects it to community organizations serving people in need. Their work turns surplus into support, and on this day it landed exactly where it was needed.

For families navigating long hospital stays at the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center, a hot meal they don’t have to think about is a real gift. As one Fisher House guest shared after the drop-off, “Those of us that are residents at Fisher House appreciate this more than you will ever know.”

Thank you to the team at Cuisine Rescue for the partnership and for helping us make the House feel a little more like home.
