Freedom Church Returns to the Fisher House with a Sloppy Joe Dinner

Sloppy joes and baked potatoes were on the table at the Charleston Fisher House, thanks to the crew from Freedom Church. Four volunteers set up in the House kitchen with buns lined up on the island, a foil pan of baked potatoes, and a stack of plates ready for whoever came down the hall hungry.

“We appreciate being able to do something for them while they are away from home,” the group shared.

That’s the whole spirit of the Meal Train. Families staying at the Fisher House are here because a loved one is receiving care at the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center, and their days are built around appointments, waiting rooms, and drives across town. A hot dinner already made, on a table they didn’t have to set, is one less thing to worry about — and a reason to sit down together.

This is not the first time this crew has filled our kitchen. Freedom Church brought a Meal Train lunch of sandwiches, snacks, and dessert back in July, and their volunteers’ shirts say it plainly: Freedom Gives — Make a Difference, with a nod to 1 Peter 4:10. Thank you for coming back.
